Meet Our Team
Brittany Hornung
Brittany Hornung received her bachelors degree in accounting in 2016 from the University of Oregon, and her CPA certificate (Oregon license) in November 2017. She has mentored under Mike Buckwald since first coming to work for him in 2007. From the very beginning, she felt a natural inclination toward tax and accounting, which has since turned into a passion and eagerness to face new challenges. In January 2019, Brittany became a partner in the accounting firm, and as of January 2024 she is the sole owner. Brittany enjoys backpacking with her family and goldendoodle. She became a mother in 2018 and loves being a working mom. Brittany is a member of the OSCPA, OAIA, and the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mike Buckwald
Mike Buckwald received his bachelors degree in accounting in 1979 from the University of Oregon, at which time he started his career as an accountant for the firm of Joseph English, CPA in Florence, Oregon. In January 1997 Mike received his CPA certificate (Oregon license) and became a partner with Joseph English, until Joe passed away in 2000. He enjoys fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is a Vietnam Veteran and has worked in many trades since, but ultimately, it was his love of the tax code and his mentorship with Joe English that led him to pursue a career in accounting. Mike “retired” at the end of 2023, but he is still working from time to time, while spending a little more time with his family and garden. Mike is a member of the OSCPA and OAIA.
Taylor Coolidge
Taylor is one of our talented bookkeepers and payroll processors. At 22 years old she found her passion for accounting and bookkeeping when she came to work at our firm in 2021. She is currently studying for her tax preparer’s license and is in school pursuing a degree in accounting with plans of becoming a CPA. She is a Florence native, and in her free time enjoys board games, crocheting, and thrifting.
Brian Smart
Brian wears many hats as a payroll specialist, bookkeeper and licensed tax preparer. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Economics and enjoys applying his knowledge of business and economics to his work every day. His previous experience includes over five years in food service management, and he especially enjoys working with our restaurant clients with their payroll and financial needs. In his free time, he enjoys growing plants and vegetables in the summer and hanging out with his tuxedo cat Boots all year round. He has lived in Florence since 2017 and looks forward to many more years on the coast.
Jennifer Marus
Jennifer is our office manager and tax preparer, in addition to being our lead bookkeeper and a payroll expert. She has been with us since 2010. Her inquisitive nature and keen eye for detail make her a valuable asset to our team. In her free time, she enjoys creating beauty in small spaces, learning about plants, and anything that brings forth belly laughs and a good time. She is a true gem.
